Thank you so much to the "Chet the Dog" staff for sharing a link to this picture on your facebook page, and the person who e-mailed me to tell me! [link]

Some fan art for one of my favorite book series, the Chet and Bernie detective series by Spencer Quinn :) This is my and my mother's interpretation of the narrator, a private eye's dog, named Chet. Chet works with Bernie Little, a private eye who never seems to have luck go his way, poor Bernie, but Chet still considers him the smartest guy in any room. Chet was nicknamed "Chet the Jet" by Bernie's son, Charlie, who spends most of his days with his mother (Bernie and her are divorced).
These books have such a simple and lovely charm to them, they really do. The narration is as if a dog wrote it; it can be jumpy at times which makes any sort of plot hard to follow, but the books always come around in the end and make the reader realize wow, that was important the entire time. The last two books got a bit darker in places, but they needed to be. I love the entire series and I can't wait for book 6 to come out this September! <3

Chet is never described, breed wise, in the books... so my mother and I took some liberties. In the narration, Chet frequently mentions that "I'm a hundred-plus pounder." He was also in training to be a police dog, so I can infer that a Shepherd breed is a safe bet. On the cover to the fourth book, The dog who knew too much, it shows Chet with a black and white, almost Border Collie color scheme. Lastly, it's an ongoing gag when an antagonist mentions that Chet's "ears don't match," which is also shown on the covers.
So my mother have made him part Belgian Shepherd, part Great Pyrenees, part Mutt, all Chet <3

And to anyone who has read the books, I just had to include the gaudy swan fountain xD

Chet!
He's adorable here and I like the shading and tongue! :D I just adore the series, I've read Dog On It and I'm halfway through Thereby Hangs A Tail. (The books can be hard to find where I live since we don't have any official book stores, most of my books are from thrift stores.) I wish Quinn would tell us what breeds Chet really is, I've wanted to do fan art for him, yet don't know much beyond the mismatch ears. :P
I was really happy to see someone else on DA who loved this series as well, let alone some art for it! C: He's so cute, and I love your interpretation of him! :D

Oh my goodness, these books. If you loved book one, the rest will have you mesmerized. Book 2 made me yell and scream in places (I'm sure you'll know where when you get to it!) and book 5 has to be the best written of the bunch. Book 5 is darker than the rest, but. My goodness. I couldn't put it down!
I'm lucky, I guess, since there's a Barnes n Noble book store just twenty minutes down the road. They offer shipping to the store if you pre-order, and I am going to so pre-order Chet and Bernie 6 later this year; it comes out in September! :D

I didn't think I'd get comments from anyone who knew the series, this is absolutely great! Made my night :'D I hope you can get your hands on the rest of the books. If you can, may I suggest Alibris or Amazon websites? I was able to get cheap, hardcover, first editions of the first three books through there. After that, I bought them as they came out.

I'm already 3/4ths of the way through number 2! :giggle: I'm trying to stretch it out so I don't go through it to fast, but it's so good I can't put them down! :3 So I've heard, I'm excited to read them, I don't mind dark, in fact I enjoy dark.
I was just checking them out on amazon today, that's probably where I'll get the future ones so I don't have to wait so long between books. :XD: I saw about the number 6 just recently, I'm so excited! I want it to never end! :giggle:

:aww: Aww, I'm so glad I made your day. I'm just as happy to find another fan! :la: :huggle: You lucky duck, I'll keep my eyes out for the other books in good condition! :la:
